Brother Machine
The brainchild of Seth, in 2003 exploded onto the Songfight landscape and took no prisoners winning several songfights in a short span of time and clearly dominating the competition.
Created in Austin, Texas in 2000, Brother Machine was built by Seth under the following "manifesto":
The Brother Machine is aiming at something new. We, and many others I believe, adamantly crave an artistic revolution. Now more than ever, the media is ruled by a few major, monopolistic corporations, allowing less and less independent and 'good' music to be distributed to the mainstream listeners. Not only is music being filtered, but ideas as well. "Bad" ideas are not allowed to reach the public because the independents don't have the resources to reach MTV or chain record stores on any large scale and even the big dogs don't have the pull to overcome MTV and the government (we all saw what happened to Madonna's American Life). On top of all of this, file sharing is hurting record sales. The RIAA is becoming notorious for their crack-down on free music. The music-business world is being rocked. It's a battle-zone right now, so I say FUCK IT! We're going to start outside the terrible, war-ridden music-business. Maybe we can get inside (the best place to start change), but until then, here's the plan. We're not going to fight the public. They are our audience, our muse, and our friends. They want my music? They can take it. One day I will inevitably have to sell albums to stay alive, but everything off the albums (which will always be a lot) is free to the only people who can make me great. Everyone. The music, the videos, the cartoons. All of the art and, especially, all of the ideas. This is the common belief that ties The Brother Machine and its art together. Take it and enjoy.
Brother Machine debuted during the What We Need More Of Is Science influx. By the next week, they had already taken their first win in the Space Cadet fight. They released several more songs that earned great reviews on the boards (including songs under the psuedonyms Dirty Laundry & War of the Worlds). they had amassed 5 Song Fight wins, played at Songfight Live events and then in 2004 vanished from Songfight. Seth went on to move to Liverpool putting the band on hold. Now back in the States, Seth is looking to reform Brother Machine and record the band's first "official" album.
