Jon Eric

Page history last edited by PBworks 5 years, 6 months ago

Jon Eric was born Jonathan Eric Porobil in New Orleans on November 22, 1985. He started Songfighting in May of 2003, with the "So Aggravating" fight. He was, at the time, seventeen years old, and a high school Junior. He then proceeded to enter fights for twenty-five consecutive weeks, intentionally stopping just short of tying with Octothorpe's famous record for consecutive entries (though it should be noted that Octothorpe registered twenty-six consecutive entries under the same name, and Jon Eric used numerous other names).

Jon Eric has always been regarded by the Songfight community at large as poor to mediocre in quality. His first few songs were recorded with one-take computer recording software and a stick microphone, but he soon upgraded to multitrack recording software. He plays piano, guitar, and harmonica; except for the rare occasions he's worked with real drummers, the drum sounds in his songs are always either loops or, more often, manually played on his Casio keyboard. The same holds true with bass guitar.

In the Spring of 2004, Jon Eric was assigned by Covermaster JBB to record a cover of "So Aggravating" by The Idiot Kings, a project he never completed. That August, he completed a collaborative Songfight double-entry with Johnny Cashpoint, and, while staying active on the boards, did not complete a Songfight entry for six months, and then again for another eighteen months.

He returned from his extended absence to fight in the "Stairway to the Moon" fight in May 2006, which recieved basically the same sort of criticism to which Jon was always suspect. As of late June 2006, he still has yet to complete his Idiot Kings cover, a fact for which he is still prone to occasional hazing, and his ban from Coverfight is presumed permanent. He currently resides in Gambier, OH.
